Rare vintage rhinestone earrings by Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior (1950s - signed)
A very special pair of vintage earrings designed by Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior.
These stunning costume jewellery style earrings were designed by American (living in London) designer Mitchel Maer for Christian Dior in the 1950s. His designs often represented the Victorian style and he began designing for Dior in 1952. He remained their designer until 1956 when his company went bankrupt.
The designer put the remaining stock into auction upon which Dior apparently insisted that the original 'CHRISTIAN DIOR BY MITCHEL MAER' plaques must be removed before sale.
This means pieces still featuring the plaques are hard to come by - however, these eye catching earrings have the original Mitchel Maer plaque still in place on one earring. This helps us date these earrings to between 1952 and 1956 based on the signature.
The earrings feature clip fastening meaning they can be worn by anyone as no ear piercing is required.
Due to the fact that rhinestone crystals have been used, these Maer earrings are super sparkly. They have an incredible light reflection and the halo/pear shape makes them perfect for dressing up so they can take centre stage!
In very good condition. These earrings will be sent in their current replacement box (instead of our branded boxes).
Approximate measurements:
Earring measurements (widest point) - 25x20mm
Please note that all our items are vintage and sometimes even older. We will note any substantial flaws, but each piece has its own history and may show minor signs of wear. If you'd like any additional or specific photographs of an item before purchasing, just get in touch.
